Asthma Friendly Children's Services
An Asthma Friendly Children’s Service adopts strategies to support the whole child care community in understanding and managing asthma.
There are over 4,000 services in NSW, providing care for more than 120,000 children each day. As 1 in 9 children have asthma, it is important that staff within these centres have a good understanding of asthma and have strategies in place to make these environments safer and healthier places for children with asthma.
In order to be recognised as Asthma Friendly, a centre must achieve 7 essential criteria, and submit the Asthma Friendly Certification form. Once this is achieved, a centre will receive a certificate of recognition, and can promote their Asthma Friendly status. Parents will be reassured that every effort has been made to ensure the centre is a safer place for their child with asthma.
